Full Plate

Posted by Todd under: Life; Programming; Web; Work .

I am beginning to wonder if my plate hath overfilled. I think I have way too much stacked up and after AEA I just poured out thoughts and ideas onto paper, to just start on one, work on it for a day, then move onto another on the list. Now, that list is more than started, every idea, has been worked on. Only problem is, none of them are complete.

I have lost sleep. I have been burdened with an avalanche of ideas and when I try to sleep, I just get another idea. Like maybe if just before I try and sleep, I see a picture and look at the colors, I get a color scheme and have to write that down, using the Firefox Color Picker and carefully plot and notate colors and stuff. I am now averaging about 3 hours of sleep per day.

Then there comes the fact I work at night, usually 9 at night until, well, 8 or 9 in the morning. It is tedious work and it is taking a toll on my body. You see, I work in a grocery store for those of you who do not know. It is not only physical and labourous, it is draining. The hours, you never get used to, “one day off” only really accounts for a half-day, and I am broken-down, like a long-rented mule.

Right now, as it stand I have a total of 14 projects I am working on in some capacity. I have even taken the time, to document most of those projects, get a timeline in order and even a scope. AEA really put the thunder into me, too bad this wasn’t a professional setting and perhaps I would stand out or shine. Regardless, Those 14 projects are no more than 15% underway.

Those include;

  • A CSS Reset sheet
  • A CSS Framework
  • Re-design of my portfolio site
  • Tinkering with this blog
  • 4 templates
  • Finishing an app I started years ago for a fantasy football draft application
  • Re-tooling a CMS I wrote years ago in PHP
  • Finish reading 3 books I started in January (not really coding, but on my list nonetheless)
  • Finding a full-time job and spreading my resume as far as the country stretches

There seem to never be enough hours in the day and the way it stands right now, the constant tug-of-war I go through daily just makes me tired.

I think the last item on my list has taken precedence over most everything of late because I just cannot do the night shift any longer. I’ll be put to the test tonight when I have to endure a huge truckload of frozen products and I do not look forward to it whatsoever.

That one huge goal I talked about, the one to work for a certain design studio, may just be a fond dream I have. Who knows.

That is all.
